Have We Become Immune To How The Media Portrays Women?

Woman portrayed in a sexually submissive way.

We are so used to it, we have stopped noticing it. We seem to have become immune to media images, whether they be on advertisements, music videos, fashion spreads, posters, etc, almost every where one may look, women are shown in many stages of undress and in positions that make them sexually available or submissive. On the contrary, men are always depicted in positions of dominance, a perfect example is the above picture where the man is standing on both his feet while the woman is reclining, he is fully clothed, while she is hardly dressed. Its a constant battle between reminding myself who I truly am and what the media says I should be like. Its easier to draw the line with simple things like what I want to achieve and other aspirations, but it requires a stronger backbone to not define my purpose around what I look like or whatever opinions I should supposedly have. Over time I'd become a stubborn character seeing media as the sole reason behind all the pressure, but I have learnt that there are two sides to everything. Women can only move away from being sexual items and just pretty faces, if they start embracing inner beauty, seeking virtuous lives and redefining how the media sees them.
This is a Two Chains featuring Lil Wayne music Video, it gives a perfect description of the differences of how different women and men are portrayed.

  5. I have to agree with you the media uses women as sex objects and men as the strong dominates. They say sex sells, yes that’s true but they don't have to use women to the point of being seen as sex object that can be used by man to gain power of them. Nice blog enjoyed reading it hope the next one is as nice as this one.

  9. we have let men to control us in the way that it will be hard to revised it. we dont wear clothes that show we want men to respect us, it all start when you get out of your door wear whatever it is. the clothes that we wear show men what we want if you go outside half naked what are you telling the men, we have to respect ourbody before we expect men to do the same.

  12. I hate what the media is planting, this leads to women losing their confidence, they depend on fashion and make-up to enhance their beauty which is totally unacceptable.

  15. I feel that this topic was looked at one-dimensionally, and also that the women in these careers might feel that their morals are not in any way being compromised, and that by potraying their bodies on magazines and videos in this manner, the might feel that it actually empowers them as women. Their take might be that it sends out the message that women are free to wear whatever they want without fear of being labeled.

  16. if that is the case then their mental states have to be checked, how can one portray dominance or any form of leadership with their underwear sticking out?
