If you want to understand what is happ-
ining in the 21st century, you have got
to understand the media.

The media is the
message and the
messenger and increasingly a
powerful one. The topic of how the media portrays women continues, as the manner in which media portrays women has such a powerful effect on the public mind, especially if viewers are being constantly bombarded with such images. Regina Kulk, a media expert noted that, "While we are careful to eat healthy foods and exercise, we seem to neglect our
psychic health, which is bombarded daily by demeaning images of naked women.'' A question I would always ask myself is, why is it so difficult for women to run for
leadership positions or for a
political office?and my answer to this was, because of society's already influenced views on women, any women who tries to break such views is seen as too ambitious. Really, how can women feel powerful if they are always portrayed half naked?
Nevertheless I wish all women would learn to see themselves beyond magazine covers and explore the fact that they are more meant for so much more. I'm learning to see that femininity as a gift to the world.

Femininity is indeed a gift to the world. I eat as i please and I worry not about what others will think about me. #for he love of me as I am.
ReplyDeleteThank you, this must stop and it's up to us really. I mentioned a similar angle in my Girl Power post. We are constantly trying to measure up to men, instead of finding out who we are and what we need to bring to the table
ReplyDeleteThank you ladie.......viva girl power viva!!!!!
ReplyDeleteExactly, and to come to think of it I've never as much portrayal of half naked men as of women.
ReplyDeletemust wemon thinks that if you are skin and naked guys will love you but is not always the case. we have to learn to love our body before we expect others to do. femininity is a gift that we have be grateful for, a man who love you must love you for who you are. for example let look to he movie phat girls, hose two ledias look down of themselves because they were fat but the time they accpted themselve they learn that there is more then being skinner and walking half naked.
ReplyDeletewell put my fellow sisters, i love the example you made Nelly...maybe if the media would portray more women who are in power, the world would be a much better place to live in.
ReplyDeleteIt is important that as a person you should accept and love yourself for who you are and the way you look.
ReplyDeleteexactly, kumi lapho nje!!
ReplyDeleteAll women should learn to love and appreciate their bodies, for their bodies are the temple of the LORD.
ReplyDeletewe are indeed more than what is in the magazines because we are not photoshopped we are beautiful beings
ReplyDeletemost definetely, APPRETIATE!!!
ReplyDeletethe media makes it seem as if skinny women are sexy while as being sexy has to do with personality..i wish many ladies can read your blog because it will inspire them
ReplyDeleteTHANX SWEETY, I HOPE SO TOO!!!
ReplyDeleteom my goodness!!! so true. and to think that u hardly see men exposing themselves in such a manner.
ReplyDeleteduuude, womwn are always the naked ones, a great example of such is the kenny kunene sushi parties!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf anything, i feel that woman have the resilience to change the world. We also need to keep in mind that a child's fisrt lesson is in most cases tought by a woman, but with that said, I also feel that the world's acceptance of women assuming leadership positions is still a working progress. although it has happening all over the world, woman are still mainly seen as naturers.
ReplyDeletemost women like showing out their bodies and they get mad when they are told to respect their bodies.
ReplyDeletewomen in leadership is one thing strongly support, and i tell you there has never beeen any conversation that i had with any of my female friends that ended without me telling them to always use thier heads and stay in charge of their lives
ReplyDeleteInteresting post my sister in Christ. I personally that as women, we will never satisfy everybody so its better to satisfy yourself and your creator who is up there but revealing your body in public for people to recognise is a no no because people cannot respect you if you first dont respect your.
ReplyDeletethank you Lrato...Malunga, that coming from a guy is very rare, we appritiatr brothers like you.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that sister Puseletso!!
ReplyDeletevongani, yup it still is a work in progress!!
ReplyDeletewow i think as women we must just respect ourselves and honor our bodies cause its the temple-of God
