The media is the message and the messenger and increasingly a powerful one. The topic of how the media portrays women continues, as the manner in which media portrays women has such a powerful effect on the public mind, especially if viewers are being constantly bombarded with such images. Regina Kulk, a media expert noted that, "While we are careful to eat healthy foods and exercise, we seem to neglect our psychic health, which is bombarded daily by demeaning images of naked women.'' A question I would always ask myself is, why is it so difficult for women to run for leadership positions or for a political office?and my answer to this was, because of society's already influenced views on women, any women who tries to break such views is seen as too ambitious. Really, how can women feel powerful if they are always portrayed half naked?
Nevertheless I wish all women would learn to see themselves beyond magazine covers and explore the fact that they are more meant for so much more. I'm learning to see that femininity as a gift to the world.

We are so used to it, we have stopped noticing it. We seem to have become immune to media images, whether they be on advertisements, music videos, fashion spreads, posters, etc, almost every where one may look, women are shown in many stages of undress and in positions that make them sexually available or submissive. On the contrary, men are always depicted in positions of dominance, a perfect example is the above picture where the man is standing on both his feet while the woman is reclining, he is fully clothed, while she is hardly dressed. Its a constant battle between reminding myself who I truly am and what the media says I should be like. Its easier to draw the line with simple things like what I want to achieve and other aspirations, but it requires a stronger backbone to not define my purpose around what I look like or whatever opinions I should supposedly have. Over time I'd become a stubborn character seeing media as the sole reason behind all the pressure, but I have learnt that there are two sides to everything. Women can only move away from being sexual items and just pretty faces, if they start embracing inner beauty, seeking virtuous lives and redefining how the media sees them.
This is a Two Chains featuring Lil Wayne music Video, it gives a perfect description of the differences of how different women and men are portrayed.
